Monaco cruises in Kuala Lumpur

World number 11 Juan Monaco opened his campaign at the Malaysian Open with a second-round 6-4 7-5 win over wild card Jimmy Wang in Kuala Lumpur.

The Argentinian second seed was broken three times, but responded with five breaks from 11 opportunities to clinch victory over his opponent from Chinese Taipei in one hour and 48 minutes.

The 28-year-old is chasing his fourth title of the season on his debut appearance at the ATP World Tour 250 hard-court tournament as he looks to force his way into the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

Monaco is currently joint 12th in the Race to London with the top eight qualifying for the November event at the O2 Arena.

However, fourth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov and fifth seed Feliciano Lopez were both upset in their second-round contests.

Colombia's Alejandro Falla battled past Dolgopolov 6-3 3-6 6-3 in one hour and 32 minutes.

Dutchman Igor Sijsling recorded his sixth win of the season as he ousted Lopez 7-6 (7/0) 7-6 (7/2).

Former world number three Nikolay Davydenko reached his second ATP World Tour quarter-final in a row as he defeated Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin 7-5 6-4.

Davydenko, a semi-finalist last week at the Moselle Open in Metz, broke serve four times as he claimed victory in one hour and 41 minutes.
