Carlos Berlocq produced a shock victory over former world number three David Ferrer to reach the quarter-finals of the Argentina Open.
Wild-card entrant Berlocq – ranked 77 in the world rankings – unleashed a superb performance to record a 6-4, 6-2 win and secure a last eight tie against Brazilian Thiago Monteiro at the ATP Tour event in Buenos Aires.

Berlocq is the last Argentine player in the competition after compatriot Guido Andreozzi suffered a 7-6, 6-3 defeat to Austria’s Gerald Melzer.
Monteiro had reached the quarter-final stage after beating Spain’s Tommy Robredo 6-3, 6-4, while in the other second round tie, Ukraine’s Alexandr Dolgopolov triumphed over Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas 6-3, 7-6.
