Berdych ends title drought with Rotterdam win

The third-seeded Czech, who had not lifted a trophy since winning in Stockholm in October 2012, secured his ninth career crown with a comprehensive 6-4 6-2 triumph over his unseeded Croatian opponent in Rotterdam.

Berdych faced three break points in the second game of the match, but held firm and then broke the Cilic serve to establish an early stranglehold.

And the 28-year-old did not look back, sending down nine aces and firing 20 winners en route to a 76-minute success which will see him rise a place to sixth in the world rankings.
