There were no such worries for the other top seeds in action on Tuesday, however.
Second seed Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium defeated Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova 7-5 6-2, third-seeded Chinese Shuai Zhang cruised past Thai Nicha Lertpitaksinchai 6-3 6-0, fourth seed Ayumi Morita of Japan overcame Ukraine's Olga
Savchuk 6-2 6-4 and Japan's Misaki Doi hit back for a 6-2 6-7 (7/9) 6-4 success against Yi-Fan Xu of China.
Petra Martic of Croatia enjoyed a 6-0 6-0 victory over Russia's Vera Dushevina, while Australian Jarmila Gajdosova saw off Thailand's Peangtarn Plipuech 6-3 6-4.
China's Yafan Wang and Israel's Julia Glushko also advanced, battling from a set down to secure respective three-set triumphs over two more Chinese players - Ziyue Sun and Yuxuan Zhang.
