Qualifier Konta, ranked 141st on the WTA Tour, breezed to a 6-3 6-2 win in 71 minutes against her Dutch opponent.

Konta fired down seven aces and did not concede a single break point to set up a clash with either Israel's Shahar Peer or home favourite Shuai Peng, both of whom are ranked higher than the Briton.

Monica Puig was among the other winners.

The Puerto Rican has had a good year on the WTA Tour, rising from a season-opening 127 to her current ranking of 48.

She looked impressive again in China, battling hard to beat Nadiya Kichenok of Ukraine 7-5 7-6 (7/4) in two hours and 23 minutes.

The eighth seed will meet Galina Voskoboeva next following the Kazakhstani's 6-3 6-1 defeat of Petra Cetkovska.

Sixth seed Hsieh Su-Wei is through thanks to a 6-1 6-2 win against Paula Ormaechea while there were also wins on Monday for Shuai Zhang, Vania King and Karolina Pliskova.
