Erakovic battles through at Bell Challenge

Marina Erakovic fought back from a set down to beat Mallory Burdette and claim a place in the second round of the WTA Bell Challenge in Quebec City.

The sixth seed from New Zealand was edged out in a tight opener, but recovered well to post a 5-7 7-6 (7/4) 6-3 victory over her American opponent.

Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia also came through a testing three setter, seeing off Maria Sanchez of the United States 6-2 2-6 6-3.

A third American, Christina McHale, had a more comfortable time on court in her opening match as she eased past Austria's Tamira Paszek 6-2 6-1, while eighth-seeded Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia saw off Canada's Aleksandra Wozniak 6-3 6-4.
