South Korea’s Hyeon Chung and India’s Yuki Bhambri surged through the qualifying rounds and into the main draw for the 22nd Aircel Chennai Open.
Chung, who is only 20, went one set up against Jurgen Melzer thanks to a comfortable 6-0 opener but found it hard going in the second to edge the Austrian 7-6 and take the match.
Yuki took out Marco Cecchinato in the last qualifying round and comfortably beat Nicolas Kicker of Argentina on Sunday to secure his place in the main event, winning 6-3, 6-1.
He will face fellow Indian Ramkumar Ramanathan in the first round on Tuesday, while Chung will play Serbia’s Miljan Zekic.
Meanwhile, the other two players to qualify were Croatia’s Nikola Mektic and Jozef Kovalik of Slovakia.
