Viktor Troicki is certain to have landed himself in hot water after launching an astonishing rant at umpire Damiano Torella in his defeat to Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
Serbian Troicki launched one of the most extraordinary tirades of abuse ever witnessed at Wimbledon after the Italian chair umpire overruled a line call that led to match point in his five-set defeat to Spain’s Ramos-Vinolas in the second round.
The 30-year-old now faces a fine in excess of £5,000, especially after refusing to apologise, instead insisting that Torella should face a fine, branding the umpire too inexperienced to officiate on a court lacking Hawk-Eye technology.
After losing his cool, the world number 27 twice screamed on Court 17, before imploring Torella to look at the ball, that he claimed had no chalk residue, in his mind proving Ramos-Vinolas’ shot was long.
Labelling Torella “the worst ever umpire in the world”, Troicki then surrendered the match on the very next point, before resuming his extreme tantrum.
After bellowing “What are you doing?” six times, Troicki exclaimed “Bull****” before storming off court.
Ramos-Vinolas kept his cool despite Troicki’s petulance, to prevail 3-6 6-3 6-3 2-6 6-3 and progress into the third round.
“He should be the one who is fined, he cost me,” Troicki said later, sticking to his guns.
“I’m not saying he cost me the match but he cost me an important point. I behaved well. I didn’t do anything until that moment.
“He doesn’t have experience on such a surface and in such a match. The guy’s just way too bad to be on the court where there is no Hawk-Eye.
“He’s doing such a match and I’ve never seen him in my whole career. That’s just crazy.
“I spoke to the referee after the match and I think it shouldn’t happen that such a chair umpire can be on the singles court with the men’s on grass, where there is no Hawk-Eye.
“He’s not able to do a proper job, so I told him that. I was just boiling at that stage. I just couldn’t talk normally.”
Troicki’s protracted protestations all started with two visceral screams in immediate reaction to the overruled call. He then grabbed the ball and stormed to the umpire’s chair.
“No white, look at it!” shouted Troicki. “Come on please, look at it, once, once! Look at it.”
As Torella remained unmoved, the 30-year-old then swatted the ball clean away into the air with his racket, before exclaiming: “The worst ever umpire in the world!
“What are you doing? Did you see the ball. You’re so bad.”
Troicki then stormed back to his mark for what would prove the final point of the match, only to pick up his rant once more, to cement an ignominious end to his efforts in this year’s singles draw.
“You’re the worst umpire, ever!” shouted Troicki, storming back to the umpire’s chair.
“Do you know what you did? Do you know what you did? Do you know what you did? You’re horrible! What are you doing?! What are you doing?!
“What are you doing? Tell me, what are you doing? What are you doing here? What are you doing here? Bull****!”
