The Japan Warriors raced to a 29-15 win over the Philippine Mavericks in the Singapore leg of the ongoing International Premier Tennis League on Friday.
Marat Safin got the Warriors off to a winning start with a 6-3 win in the Legend's match against America's James Blake inside Singapore’s Indoor Stadium.
The women's singles saw Japan's Kurumi Nara battle it out against the Mavericks' Jarmila Gajdosova. Nara would dominate the Australian, winning 6-1.
Unfortunately the woes continued for the Mavericks, as the Warriors earned 6-2 win when Leander Paes teamed up with Mijrana Lucic-Baroni in the mixed doubles to overcome Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Gajdosova, giving the Warriors a healthy lead.
The Mavericks' Roger-Vasselin stayed on court and paired up with Treat Huey to defeat Paes and Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-5 (7-5) in the men's doubles for their forst win of the day.
Herbert then added some respectability to the scoreline, edging the big-serving Ivo Karlovic 6-3.
Later in the day, the Singapore Slammers take on the UAE Royals.
