The 31-year-old American was stopped by Hatton in the 11th round in 2008 but is keen to take on the Briton once again if he wins his scheduled comeback fight in November against Vyacheslav Senchenko.
"It would be an honour to fight Ricky again," said Malignaggi.
New Yorker Malignaggi's hometown bout against Cano was supposed to have been a title defence for the WBA welterweight champion.
However, the crown was not at risk after Cano, 23, failed to make the weight limit on Friday.
Malignaggi was downed late in the 11th round by Cano after a hard right to the jaw but he still felt he had won the contest more comfortably than the official verdict, with two judges scoring it 114-113 to him, while the third differed hugely by giving it 118-109 to Cano.
"I thought I won the fight. I thought I won pretty handily," said Malignaggi. "He was pressing the action but he wasn't laying a lot of shots."
