WADA launch Kenya investigation

The World Anti-Doping Agency are looking into allegations of doping within the Kenyan athletics team.

WADA, along with Athletics Kenya and the Kenyan police, are investigating claims doctors injected athletes with banned substances in exchange for a percentage of their winnings.

The accusations were made by German journalist Hajo Seppelt, who said he had found evidence of doping among middle- and long-distance runners at the high-altitude Rift Valley training base in the country.

Those allegations are similar to claims made by distance runner Matthew Kisorio.

Kisorio failed a drugs test at the Kenyan Championships in June and has gone on to claim doping is widespread within Kenyan athletics, with doctors corrupting athletes.

WADA have confirmed they have been in contact with Athletics Kenya and are looking into the allegations.

A WADA spokesman told the media: "WADA is aware of the doping allegations in Kenya and has been in communication with the relevant Kenyan authorities.

"An inquiry has commenced and WADA will continue to monitor its progress."
