Cycling: Rodriguez retains Vuelta lead

Joaquim Rodriguez remains 13 seconds clear of fellow Spaniard Alberto Contador at the top of the leaderboard after the 13th stage of the Vuelta a Espana.

BMW rider Stephen Cummings won the race, which was held between Ferrol and Santiago de Compostela, with Cameron Meyer and Juan Antonio Flecha four seconds behind on the 172.8km course.

Rodriguez and Contador finished 40 seconds off the pace, while British rider Chris Froome remains in third overall, 51 seconds behind Rodriguez with the Sky rider also finishing 40 seconds behind today's [Friday] winner.

Cummings surprised his breakaway companions with an attack just over three kilometres from the finish and then withstood the onslaught of Meyer and Flecha to claim the win.

Tomorrow's [Saturday] stage 14 ride sees the competitors take on the 149.2km ride from Palas de Rei to Puerto de Ancares.
