The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is planning to hold the events in two different venues.
"Our board meeting has considered a new format to separate the two events,” BWF Secretary General Stuart Borrie said during the Thomas Cup finals in Jakarta on Sunday.
Due to some differences in viewing the new format, however, the badminton chiefs have yet to confirm the next hosts.
So far, Malaysia face no competition in hosting the Thomas Cup. And as for the Uber Cup, BWF declined to name the countries. But they revealed that two countries were vying for it.
"We will discuss the plan further during the Beijing Olympics in August,” Borrie added. “My only wish is that the fans will still support both events. It doesn’t matter which countries will host them.”
The Thomas and Uber Cup have been held together since 1984.
