Yamaha Factory Racing rider Ben Spies is raring to go at this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix despite crashing out in qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix last week.

Yamaha Factory Riding failed to have any drivers representing them at Phillip Island last week after Spies and Jorge Lorenzo crashed in qualifying and the pre-race warm up respectively.

Lorenzo, who has already sealed second position in the overall standings, was ruled out of the upcoming race in Malaysia after severing the tip of his left ring finger in the incident and will have test rider Katsuyuki Nakasuga take his place instead.

Spies has been declared fit to race despite missing the Australian GP due to concussion from the qualifying crash.

The Texan is keen to take his place on the starting grid at Sepang, where he finished in fourth place last year in his first showing in the South-East Asian nation.

"I like Sepang," said Spies told his official website, "It's a track we visit a lot because of the off-season testing so we know it quite well.

"Coming into the weekend I want to be able to put in a good result, especially for Yamaha Motor Indonesia/Semakin di Depan and Petronas which are our main sponsors."

Spies is determined to give his all in the penultimate race of the season, although he is yet to fully recover from last week's incident.

"Unfortunately I'm definitely still recovering from Phillip Island, but I'm going to give it 100% as we always do. It's frustrating but it's been a bit of a year for bad luck," he said.

"We'll do the best with what we've got and see what we can achieve."

Yamaha Factory team director Massimo Meregalli voiced his doubts on Spies' full fitness.

"It's going to be a really strange weekend. We have to see how Ben's physical condition is," Meregalli. "Until he jumps on the bike we won't know how fit he is."

Spies is currently fifth in the overall riders' standings with 156 points and will likely retain his position ahead of Marco Simoncelli and Valentino Rossi, who have 139 points apiece.
