Vergne set for F1 debut in Korea

France's Jean-Eric Vergne will make his Formula One debut on Friday with Toro Rosso.

Formula 1 News: Jean-Eric Vergne

Vergne, who like two-time champion Sebastian Vettel has come through the Red Bull junior driver development programme, will drive in first practice ahead of the Korean Grand Prix.

Vergne will replace Jaime Alguersuari on the same basis that Sebastien Buemi gave up his seat to Daniel Ricciardo at the European Grand Prix in Valencia in June.

Vergne, who finished runner-up in the World Series by Renault Championship at the weekend, will then take over from Buemi in free practice at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix next month.

At the final race of the season in Brazil, whichever of the Toro Rosso drivers has the least points - currently Alguersuari leads Buemi 16 to 13 - will give up his seat to Vergne for free practice.
