Ferrari will trial a revised version of the halo in Friday's practice for the Austrian Grand Prix.
Formula 1 is pressing ahead with plans to introduce cockpit protection in 2017 with the halo design leading the charge.
The Scuderia initially ran the device in pre-season testing with both Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel putting in an installation lap each.
That design has now been updated with Ferrari scheduled to test the new smaller version, dubbed 'halo 2', in Friday's practice.
