Barcelona have been in phenomenal form this season having won 18 of their 19 matches so far having only drawn their only match against third placed Real Madrid, who are 18 points behind them.
Despite their fine form and advantageous position, Messi believes that Barcelona cannot afford to take things down a notch in the league.

"The league is in our own hands thanks to the advantage we have, but we cannot afford to relax," said the forward in an interview with FIFA.com.

"We know all about Atlético Madrid, who we are up against and who are a great team. And you can never write off Real Madrid, because they keep fighting until the end and they have caught up with us n more than one occasion. We won't relax."

Messi also revealed that Barcelona's training style under Tito Vilanova has not changed much despite him having a distinctly different management style from his predecessor Pep Guardiola, who is set to join Bayern Munich in the summer.

"They each have their own ideas, their own style, but when it comes to playing and coaching, it's the same as it has been for the last four years."

Messi has also shone for Argentina in 2012 as captain having scored 12 goals, the joint-most for any Argentine along with Gabriel Batistuta. The Albiceleste are currently top of the qualifying group for the 2014 World Cup, but Messi refused to claim sole credit for their excellent position.

"The whole team was responsible, it's up to every player, not just one individual. It was not just that I wasn't playing well before, the whole team were not playing well, for whatever reason. But once we started to win our results changed and everything became easier for us again."
