The Dutch stopper has been dropped by coach Zdenek Zeman and has not featured since the Giallorossi's 3-2 defeat to Parma back in October. Instead, the Czech tactician has promoted 24-year-old Mauro Goicoechea to a regular starting berth in the first team squad.
The 30-year-old is understandably frustrated and his agent Rob Jansen specified that showdown talks had been arranged with the club hierarchy.
Stekelenburg, a Dutch international, was signed in 2011 and will likely seek an exit if he does not get a chance to earn his place back.
"I'll have talks with Roma on Tuesday," Jansen told Voetbal International. "The goalkeeping situation at the club is not very clear."
"If this situation was to persist then we would evaluate other avenues. Maarten didn't come to Roma to sit on the bench."
Zeman defended Stekelenburg following several errors earlier in the season and also denied reports, as recently as on Saturday, linking the goalkeeper with a move away from the club.
"If one loses his place in the team, it does not mean he will be sold," Zeman told romanews.eu.
"It's not upto me who is sold by the club but it seems noone is on the market at the moment.
"Stekelenburg is a key player as well as Burdisso so I do not see where there might be problems."
