Cassano joined the Nerazzurri over the summer from city rivals AC Milan and has impressed under manager Andrea Stramaccioni's passing-based side.
The Italian returned to the fold on Thursday in the Europa League match against Neftchi after missing out on their two previous games due to suspension and team mate Cambiasso was glad for his return.
"Antonio can do anything when he has the ball at his feet, he frightens opposition defences and he can make things happen whenever he gets the ball," the Argentine was quoted as saying on the official Inter website.
"We shouldn't focus on absentees. It's been a bit tough for us, but on Sunday we got back to winning ways and we need to maintain that."
Cambiasso featured in defence against Neftchi rather than in his preferred holding midfield role, but he has made it clear that he is happy to play wherever Andrea Stramaccioni needs him.
"It's up to the coach, one of my few strengths is that I put the team first, I was open to this option and that's how it should be," he added.
"I've never felt out of place in that position because I played there as a kid and on the odd occasion when we were short under [Jose] Mourinho or Leonardo."
Inter will face a stern test this weekend when they face second-placed Napoli.
