The Serie A side nearly grabbed a win against Tottenham at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursdya night but were denied the three points due to a strong goalkeeping performance by Hugo Lloris.
Nevertheless, the point was enough to secure qualification to the next round and Lazio are now two points ahead of the Lilywhites with a game against Maribor still to be played.
Mauri is aware that the four best third-placed sides from the Champions League knockout stages will be seeded for the round of 32 and wishes to avoid meeting them if possible. Potentially, the likes of Chelsea, Juventus, BATE Borisov or Celtic could enter the competition and group winners can avoid a match-up against such strong teams.
"We have gone through and now it's important that we finish top of the group so that we don't meet a side who are coming out of the Champions League," Mauri pointed out on uefa.co.
"You risk losing games like this, so we'll settle for the draw."
Libor Kozák had a number of chances in the game but he agreed with his team-mate that the next game will be pivotal even if qualification has already been assured.
"I am upset about all the chances I missed because I really wanted to score tonight [Thursday], but things just didn't go my way," he added.
"We want to win the group now, so we will go to Slovenia to win [against NK Maribor on matchday six].
"I think we played well as a team and created lots of chances. We are disappointed we didn't get a goal, but pleased because we are through."
The match also marked the return of Paul Gascoigne to the Stadio Olimpico but it was also marred by allegations that Lazio fans carried out racially-motivated chants directed at the visiting Tottenham supporters.
