Following a goalless first half at the Sultan Mohammad IV Stadium, the Red Warriors grabbed what proved to be the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute when Norfarhan Muhammad found the back of the net.

Matters then went from bad to worse for Selangor when defender Nasriq Baharom was shown a red card for a professional foul on Nurul Azwan Roya five minutes later.

The Red Giants were not without chances themselves, Croatian striker Bosko Balaban wasting his side's best opportunities in the fourth and 20th minutes.

Having already won both the Super League and the FA Cup this season, Kelantan are now slight favourites to progress to the final, although 32-time champions Selangor will be confident in their chances of overturning the deficit in next Friday's second leg at the Shah Alam Stadium.

Things are evenly poised in the other semi-final after LIONSXII and ATM played out a 1-1 draw at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Friday.

Marlon Alex James opened the scoring in the 55th minute when he beat the hosts' offside trap and calmly slotted past Izwan Mahbud, but LIONSXII centre-back Safuwan Baharudin netted with a thumping header ten minutes from time to keep alive the Singaporean outfit's hopes.
