Ghoshal sails into round of eight

The Indian teams continued their winning ways in both the men's and women's sections at the 16th Asian team squash championship in Kuwait on Tuesday.

Saurav Ghosal, the National Champion from India who is ranked 25 in the world was up against Ahmad Al Zabidi from Jordon in his first game of the tournament. Saurav started off powerfully against his counter part and went up the first game 11-5. There was some resistance from Ahmad in the second game who eventually won it 9-11. Saurav came strong and brushed aside any the challenge and won the match comfortably 11-5, 9-11, 11-3, 11-6.

Speaking after his game, Saurav said, “It is nice to have made it to the last 8 of the tournament, but there is still a long way to go. We have a very bright chance of making it right till the very end and each one of us is playing extremely well. We will ensure that we do not lose momentum and continue with our winning form.”

The men’s team made it to the last 8 of the 16th Asian Team Championships and will be facing Japan next.

Men - India beat Jordan 3-0: Mahesh Mangoankar bt Saif Al Braikat 11-2, 11-4, 11-2; Saurav Ghosal bt Ahmad Al Zabidi 11-5, 9-11, 11-3, 11-6; Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu bt Ahmad Al Saraj 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.

Women - India beat Sri Lanka 3-0: Anaka Alankmony bt Naduni Gunawardane 11-0, 1
