NHL: Stars still shining brightly

The Dallas Stars stretched their winning streak to five NHL games on Saturday night with a 2-0 success against the Anaheim Ducks.

Jay Beagle netted the decisive goal for Washington as the Capitals claimed their second straight victory with a 4-3 triumph over the Boston Bruins.

Shootout goals from Milan Hejduk and Peter Mueller lifted the Colorado Avalanche to a 3-2 success over the Edmonton Oilers.

The New Jersey Devils rallied for their third straight win, beating the New York Islanders 2-1 thanks to two goals in the final two minutes from Marek Zidlicky and David Clarkson.

Claude Giroux's lone shootout goal secured the Philadelphia a 1-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ilya Bryzgalov turning away 29 shots for his shutout.

Jeff Skinner's two goals helped the Caroline Hurricanes see off the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2, while Mike Smith stopped 42 shots for his 16th NHL shutout in the Phoenix Coyotes' 3-0 win over the San Jose Sharks.

In other games, Tyler Ennis grabbed the shootout winner as the Buffalo Sabres downed the Ottawa Senators 4-3, the St Louis Blues beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1, the Nashville Predators edged the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 and the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-1.
