But this week's Andalucia Masters is a different matter.

The Scot wants it for himself and goes into the third round at Valderrama leading by two.

Frenchman Gregory Havret was in second place, but a week after winning his first European Tour title for almost three years by a remarkable 12 strokes at his home club in Castellon, Garcia resumed just one shot further back.

"He was pretty much one of my idols when I was growing up," said former US Amateur champion Ramsay, from Aberdeen.

"His natural ability and the way he plays golf is the way that I like to play golf.

"He likes to shape it and move it and use some imagination. He's probably the best person doing that in the game.

He also connects to people. They like to go and watch him and he's entertaining.

"The guys out here appreciate how good he is and enjoy the fact that he's back and playing well.

"I think we all want him to win a major after Carnoustie (Garcia lost a play-off to Padraig Harrington in 2007 after bogeying the last hole), but I hope he gives me a chance here."
