The South African had planned to make the trip but underwent a change of heart after considering potential travel complications.
"Unfortunately I've had to change my mind about that one - I think getting out of Moscow after the game might be tricky," he said on his website. "As much as I wanted to be there for the match, I certainly didn't want to spend the whole night trying to get back to London."
He added: "That wouldn't exactly be the best preparation for Thursday's first round!
"I'll just have to settle for watching the game at home on television. So I'll just wish Sir Alex and the boys all the best and hopefully they can round off a great season with another trophy in the cabinet.
"And hopefully I can get the BMW PGA trophy in my cabinet too!"
