Latching onto a back-heel from team-mate Pedro from what appeared to be an offside position, Alba put Spain in the lead in their World Cup qualifying fixture against Belarus. The strike was the full-back's second international goal and his first since scoring in the Euro 2012 finals.

Speaking to AS, Alba dismissed talk of any potential controversy surrounding his goal.

"It doesn't matter if it was offside. The ones that go on the scoreboard are the ones that count," he stated.

Pedro was La Roja's star of the night, as the Barcelona winger recorded a hat-trick to help Vicente Del Bosque's men rout their opponents 4-0. Applauding his club mate's intelligence, Alba credited Pedro's efforts for setting up his opener.

"It was a good bit of team play. Pedro picked me out fantastically, with his back-heel, which put me through and let me score with my right. I'm very happy with the goal," he shared.

Spain's next World Cup qualifier sees them take on France on Tuesday.
