'Hazard needs a kick up his rear'

Belgian FA's technical advisor Philippe Collin believes that Eden Hazard needs to improve the defensive aspect of his game.

Collins has been credited with improving the country's youth set-up which has produced players such as Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Moussa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen.

Ahead of Belgium's World Cup qualifying campaign which begins on Friday, Collin feels that Hazard has to improve his all-round game as well.

"He has technique, explosiveness and positioning. At some point he will have to work on defending, and he has no choice with that. But I have confidence that [Belgium manager] Marc Wilmots will occasionally give him a kick up his ass," Collin told Nieuwsblad.

"The learning process is slow but good. If Messi should work for the team and defend, then I see no reason why Hazard should not do likewise."

Belgium play Wales on Friday in the opening match of their Group A qualifcation fixtures before hosting Croatia on 11 September.
