For over two decades United have supplied England with a long list of star players who have been able to transfer their excellent domestic form to the international arena.
But the Red Devils have been dreadfully poor this season.
They are 11 points adrift of fourth place and stand on the brink of elimination from the Champions League following Tuesday's humiliating defeat to Olympiacos.
Hodgson named five United players in his 30-man squad for the friendly against Denmark, but of those players, only Wayne Rooney has probably had a decent season.
"At this moment in time they are not having the best of times and not getting the results they want, but a lot can change," Hodgson said.
"There must be a lot of disappointment around the team. It is part of football.
"It would be great if all the games with a lot of England players were flying but life doesn't give you those type of things.
"It is up to the players to deal with that and to make certain they don't bring their woes if they have any woes to England and have that impact upon us."
