McManaman bolstered by England chance

WIGAN boss Owen Coyle admits he would not be surprised to see a spring in Callum McManaman's step after it was revealed he is on the periphery of the England squad.

Roy Hodgson last week surprised reporters when he said that the winger, 22, was a player he was keeping tabs on for future squads ahead of the World Cup in Brazil next summer.

"It was nice (to hear)," said Coyle of Hodgson's name check.

"Callum's an outstanding young player.

"Callum now, certainly the way he's playing, is probably just missing that goal to take him to the next level again because his play's outstanding and I know he's hungry to do that.

"It's great for us and it's always nice when people are complimentary about your players and the fact that the national manager mentioned his name, that would give anyone a boost."

COVENTRY have given teenage pair Billy Daniels and Ryan Haynes new contracts.

Midfielder Daniels, 19, made his Sky Blues debut in August 2012 and has made eight appearances so far this season, scoring three goals. He has penned a new deal which ties him to the club until June 2016.

"Billy has great determination and we have great belief that he will excel here, and I for one am looking forward to seeing that happen for the boy," Coventry boss Steven Pressley told the club's official website.

"I've been extremely impressed with Ryan's commitment and ability which is why we were so keen to extend his stay."

CREWE have signed Fulham goalkeeper Neil Etheridge on loan.

The 23-year-old, who has represented the Philippines 42 times at international level, has previously enjoyed spells with Charlton and Bristol Rovers and will stay with the Railwaymen until January 1.

Etheridge's only Fulham appearance came in the Europa League against Odense in December 2011.

"Neil is one of the keepers who I think should go on loan and get 50-75 games under his belt because he's talented," Cottagers boss Martin Jol told the club's official website.

CRAWLEY defender Connor Essam has joined non-league side Dartford on a one-month loan deal.

The 21-year-old has played 12 games for the Reds since joining from Gillingham in January, but has only started once this season.

PRESTON striker Chris Beardsley will remain on loan at BRISTOL ROVERS until January 5.

The 29-year-old has scored two goals in four matches since he joined the Pirates on an initial month-long deal at the end of October.

PLYMOUTH signed Northern Ireland Under-21 striker Caolan Lavery on loan from SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY until the new year.

Lavery has made three substitute appearances for Wednesday this season, the last of those coming against Barnsley last month.

The 21-year-old, who had a spell with Southend earlier this year, could make his Pilgrims debut against Dagenham on Saturday.

SCUNTHORPE have signed Lincoln defender Andrew Boyce on an initial loan deal.

Boyce joined the Imps in May 2012 and has gone on to make 66 appearances for the non-league outfit.

The 24-year-old could make a permanent switch to Glanford Park when his loan spell ends on January 5.

CHESTERFIELD have loaned in SHEFFIELD UNITED's teenage winger Callum McFadzean.

The 19-year-old has made eight appearances for the struggling Blades this season, but has not featured for the Sky Bet League One side since mid-September.
