Heading into the game at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on the back of last Wednesday's 1-0 win over Courts Young Lions, the Cheetahs found themselves behind after 26 minutes when Shahrazen Said headed home from an Ivan Bosnjak freekick.
Nonetheless, the visitors pulled level four minutes before the break when Mamadou Diallo went on a terrific run before crossing for Liam Shotton to score, but DPMM reclaimed their lead in the 55th minute when new signing Joao Moreira opened his account for the club.
Three minutes later, the contest appeared to be all but over when Shahrazen grabbed his second of the evening from a Rosmin Kamis corner, but Diallo gave Hougang hope when he pulled one back in the 63rd minute.
Shahrazen then had the perfect chance to complete his hat-trick, and wrap up the three points, in the 73rd minute when the hosts were awarded a penalty but his effort was kept out by a stunning save from Fadhil Salim.
And 14 minutes from time, Syaqir Sulaiman netted what proved to be the equaliser when he headed home from a corner for the second straight game, after scoring the winner against Young Lions.
But in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter in Brunei, DPMM have one final chance to grab the win when they were awarded another penalty two minutes later, but Fadhil once again came to the rescue to keep out Bosnjak's effort and preserve a share of the spoils for his side.
The Cheetahs were required to play out the final ten minutes of the match with ten men after captain Lau Meng Meng was sent off.
