After spending much of the game soaking up the pressure from the hosts and looking to hit them on the counter, the Tigers duly opened the lead in the 80th minute when winger Zulkiffli Hassim netted with a header.

Five minutes later, South Korean midfielder Park Kang-jin added a second with a delightful lob to wrap up the three points for his side, and to add insult to injury, DPMM were reduced to ten men shortly after when Sairol Sahari was sent off.

The result meant Balestier became only the third side to inflict a home loss on the Bruneian outfit this season, and was particularly impressive given they had already been assured of finishing in 6th place.

In the process, Darren Stewart's charges also ended DPMM's title bid as Vjeran Simunic's men needed to better leaders Tampines Rovers' result against Harimau Muda in Friday's other game at the Jalan Besar Stadium, which ended in a 1-0 victory to the Stags.

Mustafic Fahrudin scored the only goal of the game in the 41st minute when he successfully converted a penalty, after Aleksandar Duric had been felled in the box by Shahrul Saad, to hand his side their second straight league title.
