Veteran striker Aleksandar Duric was the hero for the Stags at their adopted Clementi Stadium home, the Singapore international bagging a hat-trick, as Tampines helped ease the pain of their midweek AFC Cup loss to Hong Kong's Kitchee.
Having failed to win any of their previous three 2012 Great Eastern-YEO's S.League games, Tampines roared into the lead after only 40 seconds, Duric firing home from close range.
The 41-year-old forward added a second after 24 minutes, this time capitalising on Woodlands goalkeeper Ahmadulhaq Che Omar's fluffed clearance.
Reigning S.League champions Tampines further their lead in the 36th minute, Mustafic Fahrudin nodding in a corner, before Duric grabbed his third of the game in the 51st minute.
The win takes Tampines to seventh in the table. Woodlands's second defeat of the campaign leaves them fifth.
In the night's other match, Gombak United secured their first win of the season thanks to a 3-0 success against Tanjong Pagar United.
All three goals came in a frantic first half, Mustaqim Manzur, Samuel Benjamin and Julien Durand scoring for the Bulls who went sixth with the victory.
Tanjong's defeat leaves them with only one point from their four games thus far.
