Both Manchester City and Chelsea were reportedly interested in signing Hamsik last summer, but the Slovakia international ended speculation of a move away from Napoli by signing a new contract which tied him down to the club till 2016.
Despite the 25-year-old's best efforts, Napoli have failed to keep up with league leaders Juventus in the Serie A; the Partenopei are currently second in the table on 69 points, 11 points behind the Bianconeri, who can win the title this weekend with victory over Palermo.
Walter Mazzarri's men also disappointed in the Coppa Italia as they were knocked out of the competition by lowly Bologna, while their journey in the Europa League was abruptly ended by Czech Republic outfit Viktoria Plzen.
Nonetheless, Hamsik firmly believes his side managed to perform admirably for majority of the season and claimed staying at Napoli was the right choice for him.
"We had a great campaign, only getting it wrong in a few games. Unfortunately, Juventus did better," Hamsik told Sky Sport Italia.
"I have no regrets over the Scudetto race, as we are improving and second place is certainly not to be sniffed at.
"In order to make that extra step up in quality we must avoid the wrong approach against teams like Torino, Sampdoria and Bologna."
Hamsik also urged both Mazzarri and star striker Edinson Cavani, recently linked with a move away from the club in the upcoming transfer window, to take his lead and continue on at Napoli.
"I have never had regrets in my life and am happy to be here," Hamsik declared.
"I hope Mazzarri and Cavani can stay here, as they are our strength.
"Edinson [Cavani] is relaxed and not thinking about the transfer gossip because we still have to earn second place. At the end of the season he will have two months to make a decision.
"Mazzarri has helped me in every aspect. How do I see the next five years panning out? For the moment I am focused on securing the Champions League place, then enjoying that competition next season and hopefully even fight for the Scudetto."
Hamsik will likely feature for Napoli when they take on Inter Milan in their next Serie A fixture.
