Team first for Roma despite Totti's big night

After Erik Lamela had opened the scoring for the Giallorossi at the Stadio Olimpico in the 7th minute, Totti struck 20 minutes from time to wrap up the win, but also - in the process - became the second-highest scorer in Serie A history with 226 goals.

Nonetheless, while there was praise for the Roma skipper briefly, Andreazzoli was more pleased with his players' display as a whole.

"It's always much easier with him [Totti] around," he said on the club's official website. "He makes difficult things look easy.

"Tonight [Sunday] we took a big step forward, playing with consistency. I saw the consistency that I've been calling for and so I feel very pleased about that."

One player Andreazzoli was effusive in his praise of was Lamela, who is beginning to emerge as a real key player for the club.

"I think in the first half we didn't use enough of his [Lamela's] ability on the wing," he added. "When he's heading towards goal, he's rapid.

"He's a very exciting player who has no problem dealing with the workload. In the summer, after years of [former coach Zdenek] Zeman running his tests, he [Lamela] beat the record for the 1000 metres.

"Erik has no problem showing his ability in this regard in that area of the field, showing the full array of his talents."

Roma are now seven points behind third-placed AC Milan, who currently occupy the last qualifying spot for next season's UEFA Champions League, but their rivals Lazio are also in contention.

Still, Andreazzoli played down talk that his side could beat the Biancocelesti and pip them to a top-three spot, insisting he is only going to take one game at a time.

"Derby to decide the Champions League places? Not yet," he said. "We play Palermo before Lazio.

"We'll start to think about the Biancocelesti after our trip to Sicily."

Andreazzoli was handed the reins at Roma until the end of the season after Zeman was sacked last month.
