Juve kicked-off the New Year in the worst possible fashion by going down to defeat at home despite Sebastian Giovinco's early penalty.

Sampdoria, who also went a man-down following Gaetano Berardi's first-half red card, levelled through Mauro Icardi shortly after the break.

Icardi then scored a sensational goal in the 69th minute to hand Delio Rossi his first victory as Samp boss.

"Let's congratulate Sampdoria," Conte said on the Juve website.

"They did well and had a slice of luck. It's never easy to win at our place, but we need to conduct a deep analysis in order to work out exactly what happened.

"You can't lose games dominated for long spells, where you go into the interval a goal to the good, playing against 10 men. I'm very disappointed about this.

"However, let's not forget that we're following a path of development and need to continue to keep our feet on the ground. Even more so now, given the month and a half of fixtures we have to face without important players."

During the defeat to Samp, Juve midfielder Claudio Marchisio was forced onto the sidelines through injury in the 78th minute.

He underwent an MRI scan shortly after the final whistle and the club have confirmed Marchisio had escaped serious injury but suffered heavy bruising instead.

Juve hold a five-point lead over Lazio atop the Serie A standings.
