Zanetti plans to play on for Inter

Inter Milan skipper Javier Zanetti has rubbished any notion of him retiring at the end of this season.

A valuable victory over their rivals.

Zanetti has been a first-team fixture for Inter Milan since joining the club from Banfield in 1995 and is currently the longest-serving captain in Italian football having been the club captain since 1999.

The 39-year-old is still involved in the first team having already made 26 appearances for Inter so far this season and he feels that he still has what it takes to play on for the club next season.

"My intention is to have another season and that is probably also with Inter", he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Everybody is pulling in the same direction.

"Forty years is a lot, but not when I am still feeling good and am still being used."

Zanetti is keen to remain with Inter even in retirement and raised the possibility of undertaking an ambassadorial role similiar to the one which Luis Figo has.

"Whatever I am doing, I want to be as close as possible to the team and maybe continue to represent the club at special events."

Zanetti is currently the most capped Argentine and the most-capped Inter player in history.
