Although Torino's Kamil Glik was shown a red card in the 36th minute, Juventus could only break the deadlock midway through the second half via a Marchisio header, before Sebastian Giovinco doubled the team's tally 10 minutes later. Marchisio then scored his second five minutes from time to extend the Bianconeri's lead at the top of the Serie A table.
Speaking to the club's official website after the game, Marchisio revealed his delight at the team's return to winning ways after their defeat to AC Milan.
"It’s not the first double I’ve scored in the derby, but this one definitely counts a great deal more," he shared.
"It was important to get back to winning ways after the bad game in Milan and we took to the field this evening [Saturday] with plenty of determination. I felt this was evident, even though Glik’s sending off made things a little easier for us."
Juventus lined up in a 4-3-3 formation during the match, instead of their usual 3-5-2. The team's caretaker manager Angelo Alessio explained that the switch was necessary as he did not want to risk Giorgio Chiellini.
"The change in formation? We didn’t feel it was worth risking Chiellini and preferred to go with the 4-3-3 used on many occasions last year. But our system is 3-5-2 and we’ll use that in Donetsk, where Chiellini will come back into the fold," he stated.
"Antonio will be back on Sunday, I can’t wait for him to return and take his place on the bench."
Juventus will take on Shakhtar Donetsk in a crunch Champions League game this Wednesday.
