The young coach took over the reins after a troubling season in which players, staff and the coaching staff failed to work in harmony. Inter hired three different coaches in the previous season with Stramaccioni only getting the nod towards the end of March. He just barely helped the club achieve a Europa League-spot finish last term as well.

But Inter are doing much better this time around and have moved within one point of second-placed Napoli with their latest league win. Having earlier inflicted a defeat on AC Milan last month has also put them in position as being the only side from Milan likely to muster a challenge for the championship.

Stramaccioni was pleased with Antonio Cassano's display as the striker scored the opening goal against Catania, but in his post-match press conference he chose to focus on the team performance demonstrated by all the players that featured on the day.

"I am happy with the defensive solidity shown by the side, and our hard work is evident in the recent run of results," he told reporters after the game.

"Antonio Cassano certainly played an important part in the win, but I think it is fair to say that this win represents all the players."

And he went on to remark that the win also demonstrated the return of Inter as an attacking force in the Serie A.

"We wanted to send a signal that Inter could win this game playing in a very attacking style, with three strikers and a muscular midfield," he added.

"I put [Joel] Obi on the left to control [Alejandro] Gomez, as I noticed that he tends to suffer when faced with left-footed players who can stop him more easily as he tries to cut in on his stronger foot."
