The duo had been dropped by the coach for the previous fixture against Atalanta after they had failed to muster the sufficient energy and enthusiasm during training.
Reports also emerged that De Rossi could be considering a move to Manchester City over the January transfer window as he is not entirely happy with the early sequence of results that sees Roma fifth in the table, eight points adrift of leaders Juventus.
But they gave it their all in the Saturday win over Genoa and Osvaldo even bagged a brace as his side came back from two goals down to win 4-2.
Zeman lauded the duo and said that the qualities demonstrated by the performance was exactly what he was looking for.
"In my view these are the ‘real' Osvaldo and De Rossi. Unfortunately I didn't have them earlier, but I am happy they reacted," he said in the post-match press conference.
"Will I start dropping more players? It depends on their behaviour, not mine.
"I think the team overall played well, as it wasn't easy to react when 2-0 down straight away.
"I continue to say this team is competitive, though obviously the players have to show their quality on the field and so far that hasn't happened completely.
"The way I see it the team can challenge everyone, even if it means losing. The problem against Juventus was that we didn't even try to challenge.
And Roma director Franco Baldini rubbished rumours that De Rossi could be on the way out in the January transfer window.
"Of course we won't sell De Rossi," he told Sky Sport Italia.
"We are absolutely convinced that we have put a very strong squad at Zeman's disposal, which of course he helped to construct.
"This is a side whose ambition is to win and win soon. We are proud of our team, especially De Rossi and Osvaldo.
"The coach has every right to make his decisions and deal with the team. The club has never intervened in these matters. Zeman merely said what he expects from the squad in general."
"We already decided not to sell him in the summer, so I don't think anything can change our minds. Let it be clear, we have no financial need to sell De Rossi.
