Current Serie A table toppers Juventus play host to second placed Napoli this Saturday, with both sides seeking to put a dent in each other's title aspirations and gaining an advantage in the fight for the title.
Cannavaro, who started his career playing for Napoli, claims that the Bianconeri currently possess the most all-rounded squad in the Serie A, but is backing Napoli to give the Turin outfit a real challenge this season.
"Juventus are the most complete squad in the Division and Napoli are the only team right now who can take them on," Cannavaro told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"There is not a great deal of difference when you look at the quality in both teams.
"Character is what could make the difference and the desire to win, the conviction in your own abilities.
"Neither team should be scared of the other."
The former FIFA World Player of the Year also admitted that despite spending majority of his career playing for Juventus, he still retained a soft spot for Napoli and revealed he would be rooting for the Partenopei on Saturday.
"I have great respect for Juventus, a club who gave me a lot and I won two Scudetti with them," Cannavaro added.
"However, I'm a Neapolitan and Napoli are the club where I grew up. The heart always wins."
Juventus and Napoli are level on 19 points in the Serie A, with both sides having won six games and drawn one in their first seven league games.
