Crespo played most recently for Parma in the 2011/12 season but he is currently a free agent following the early termination of his contract in February.
The Argentinean starred for AC Milan, Inter Milan and Lazio in the past but he does not feel that his former clubs have a chance of stopping Napoli or Juventus from racing clear in the title race.
The two clubs have impressed football observers as they have posted an unbeaten start to their respective campaigns and downed the likes of Udinese, Roma and Lazio. In comparison, AC Milan and Inter Milan have not been as consistent with the Rossoneri having been particularly erratic with their performances of late.
Despite the season being just seven games old, Crespo feels confident in declaring that Napoli and Juventus are favourites for the Scudetto this season. The two sides are set to do battle in the Serie A on October 20 at the Juventus Stadium as well.
"Unless something extraordinary happens, I think Napoli and Juventus are favourites [for the title]," Crespo told Radio Kiss Kiss.
"They both have a recent history of winning, their coaches are amongst the best and the teams have already proven their worth this season.
"Other teams are one step behind those two."
Currently, the Serie A is taking a break as the players are currently occupied with a spate of international matches with their respective national squads.
The former Argentina international, however, is not too excited about international football as he stated: "It's a shame [about the internationals], because neither team will have a fresh squad to put on a show next Saturday."
Juve last played Napoli in the Supercoppa Italiana back in August with the Bianconeri winning 4-2 after extra time.
