Despite leading Juventus to Serie A glory last season, Conte will not be sitting in the dug-out as his team attempts to defend their league title. The Italian was slapped with a 10-month ban after he was found guilty of match-fixing during his time in charge of Siena. However, the punishment has not stopped fans of the Bianconeri from honouring him with the nickname of the "Italian Special One".
The original "Special One", Mourinho, was pleased to share his moniker with Conte, a coach whom he considered to be similar to him.
"The fans call Conte the Italian special one? I like that. I feel honoured. He is a bit like me," he said to Tuttosport.
"I like Conte a lot as a coach. He knows what he wants and is a real winner. He has a lot of charisma."
Juventus narrowly avoided being drawn together with Real Madrid in the group stages of the Champions League this season. Instead, the La Liga champions were thrown together with Premier League winners Manchester City, Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund and Eredivisie winners Ajax in the tournament's group of death, while Conte's side will play defending champions Chelsea, Shakhtar Donetsk and Nordsjaelland.
Although the Portuguese expects the Bianconeri to give a good account of themselves in the tournament, he does not consider them strong enough to win the competition.
"Can Juventus surprise in the Champions League? Let's not kid anyone, Juventus are a big team in Europe and it would be absolutely normal if they go far in the competition," Mourinho stated.
"Yes, it would be a surprise if they go all the way and win the Champions League after not playing in Europe last year. But it would not surprise me at all if they make it to the quarter or semi-finals."
Juventus will visit Genoa for their next Serie A fixture.
