Silvestre was keen on leaving the Sicilian outfit after just one season at the club and now must impress for Inter in the coming season to stay at the San Siro beyond the loan spell.

Inter can make the move permanent next summer and it is understood they would pay the €8million fee in four yearly instalments.

A Palermo statement read: "Palermo announces it has loaned Matias Silvestre to Inter. The defender joins the Milan club on loan with a buy-out option."

Silvestre is under contract with the Sicilian club until June 2015. He moved to Italy in 2008 from Boca Juniors and spent three seasons at Catania before moving to Palermo last summer.
