"[We are] close to [signing] a strong right-back, who has different qualities to the players we have in the squad," Sabatini said at a press conference.
The former Roma midfielder would not elaborate further on the identity of the impending player, but he did confirm: "It's not [Ajax full-back Gregory] van der Wiel."
Sabatini's latest comments have increased speculation that Roma are on the verge of snapping up Chelsea defender Jose Bosingwa. The 29-year-old is a free agent after his contract with the Blues expired in the summer.
He joined Chelsea from Porto in 2008 for a fee reported to be over €20million.
Meanwhile, Roma have confirmed the signing of Lithuania Under-19 international goalkeeper Tomas Svedkauskas from FK Suduva.
