Buffon made several vital saves during the clash between his side and Inter Milan. He told the club's official website that he was spurred on by the knowledge that title rivals AC Milan had beaten AS Roma during their Serie A fixture.
"I like it when we play later, especially when the other team [Milan] has won, because it adds that little spark of anxiety that I enjoy." Buffon shared.
The custodian also expressed his happiness at beating the Nerazzurri, as the squad was aware of the impact a loss would have on their title ambitions.
"Historically the Derby d’Italia is a special game, but we were also playing to win so we could keep our hopes alive of troubling the side ahead of us." Buffon said.
"If we had failed to win tonight [Sunday], those hopes would’ve been wiped out. This way we can still push to end the season on a high."
Juventus will host Napoli in their next Serie A fixture this weekend.
