Inter denied the Rossoneri a place at the top of Serie A and in the process enhance their own chances for the Scudetto with a 1-0 win at the San Siro.
And after the match, Ranieri suggested the victory could also help convince transfer target and Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez to join the club in the January transfer window.
The victory has taken Inter to within six points of the summit - and just five of their city rivals.
"Will he come to Inter after this victory?" Ranieri told Sky Sport Italia.
"Never say never."
"We are making great strides. It was important to beat AC Milan, the first game against the big sides to go in our favour, so I'm satisfied.
"Lately we're playing well. We have rediscovered our energy and also the enthusiasm to do well.
"The Scudetto? As I said from the first day, I'm not speaking about it by choice. We have held up Milan and Juve drew [against Cagliari earlier in the day].
"Before, it was important to enter into the Europa League places, now we can see the Champions League places, so we will just continue taking it one step at a time.
"Inter has it in its DNA to fight for the top positions but we must still improve."
Inter secured a morale boosting win against the Rossoneri courtesy of Diego Milito's strike in the 54th minute.
