With both Milan sides in fine form recently, the upcoming derby at San Siro is expected to be a keenly-contested one.
AC Milan are currently leading the Serie A with Juventus and are undefeated since October while Inter Milan have put their dismal start to the season behind them and are currently on a five-match winning streak.
Cambiasso expects an evenly balanced encounter between the two in-form sides.
Speaking to the club's official website, Cambiasso said: "No one can ever predict which way a derby will go. This time both teams are going through good spells. The one thing we can be sure of is that this will be, as it always has been, a thriller of a match."
The Argentine also emphasised on the fact that it takes a single incident in the highly-charged atmosphere to change the balance of the game.
"Even if you think things are well-balanced, all it takes is a penalty or a red card in the early stages of the game to upset the apple cart."
Both Milan sides are also competing off the pitch - over Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez.
AC Milan have indicated their interest in the striker earlier but Inter have thrown their name into the hat in a bit to add Tevez to their strikeforce.
