Enrique excited by Lamela progress

Roma coach Luis Enrique believes young star Erik Lamela can develop into an important player for the Giallorossi.

That decisive goal...

19-year-old Lamela joined Roma from Argentine side River Plate in the summer for a fee of €10million, but found his progress hindered by a couple of injury problems.

However, the Argentinean made a goalscoring debut against Palermo on Sunday, which eventually proved to be the winner in a tepid encounter.

And Enrique believes there is still plenty of development left in Lamela.

"He [Lamela] is a strong player who still needs to grow," Enrique told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

"I liked his attitude and his character in the game."

Enrique was also pleased with his side's overall performance, which comes a week after they fell to a 2-1 loss to arch-rivals Lazio in the Rome derby.

"The result is always the most important thing, but we always try to play well and we always work to improve.

"When results arrive as well, it gets even better.

"The victory against Palermo was important, especially because we played a good match against a great side."

Roma have now climed up to sixth in the Serie A standings, and next take on Genoa on Wednesday.
