Reggina have moved quickly to promote youth team boss Nevio Orlandi to the position of senior coach following the dismissal of Renzo Ulivieri on Monday.
Ulivieri was hired by Reggina in November following the sacking of Massimo Ficcadenti but failed to reverse the club's ailing fortunes and was shown the door in the wake of Sunday's goalless draw against Palermo.
The result left the Amaranto second from bottom of the Serie A table, three points from safety. Reggina have managed just four wins from 26 games so far this campaign, and are still waiting for their first victory away from home.
A statement from the club read: "Reggina has decided to dismiss coach Renzo Ulivieri and wishes to thank the coach and his staff for the work done so far."Ulivieri admitted was not surprised by the club's decision."There was no longer a calm atmosphere and this decision is logical," he said.
"I wasn't born yesterday, things were just not working out."Orlandi's first test as coach will come at the San Siro on Saturday against Serie A leaders Internazionale.
