Inter took no chances with United target Perisic

Ivan Perisic, Inter Milan

Inter Milan tied Ivan Perisic down to a new contract this month having convinced the winger that the club can match his ambitions going forward.

The Croatia international was a target for Manchester United during the recent transfer window, but the Nerazzurri rejected their advances to retain his services.

Inter then handed Perisic a two-year extension to keep him at the San Siro until 2022, and the Serie A outfit’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, has revealed the new deal does not include a buyout clause.

The 28-year-old began proceedings where he left off last term, registering three goals and three assists in his first five league games, with Ausilio convinced that Luciano Spalletti’s side are on the right path to success.

“Perisic still had a few years on his contract,” he told Sport Mediaset. “Nobody ever denied that this offer arrived from Manchester United.

“But we have been working to convince him to stay at Inter and that our project could be just as successful as Manchester.

“The new contract was a consequence of that. There is no release clause because we did not intend to propose one, nor was it requested by his entourage.”
